Cursory History
The Apostolic Church Cameroon has been a beacon of hope and health since its foray into the medical field in 1969. This initiative was born from the vision of the Swiss Administrative Council, which recognized the urgent need for health outreach in Cameroon. On July 28, 1969, the government granted authorization for the establishment of The Apostolic Dispensary, marking the beginning of a journey dedicated to improving healthcare access for local communities.
In its early days, the dispensary was staffed by a dedicated Swiss nurse and midwife, who provided essential medical services. By 1975, the facility had grown in capacity and was upgraded to a health center, reflecting its commitment to better serve the community. Swiss missionaries managed this health center until 1997, when it was handed over to the Cameroonian church. In 2001, this evolution culminated in the certification of the health center as a full-fledged hospital, further enhancing its ability to deliver comprehensive medical care.
Expansion
Recognizing the growing healthcare needs of the population, The Apostolic Hospital embarked on an ambitious expansion strategy in 2005. This initiative led to the establishment of several branches in key locations, including Douala – Youpwe, Douala – New Town Airport, Bole Village, and Munyenge Village. These outreach centers were strategically placed to ensure that quality healthcare services were accessible to the ever-increasing number of patients seeking assistance.
Community Engagement and Outreach Programs
Most of our hospitals are in village and rural areas because these villagers have been traveling long distances to access health care. We provide health care where it is most needed and we do it with the best of ability to ensure that every community around us has access to adequate health care helping to meet up with United National Sustainable Development Goal number 3.
